A Day in the Life: ASO Consultant

Life as an ASO Consultant.

Jack is one of our mobile marketing consultants here at CMA. He’s an integral and much-valued part of our team, who loves what he does - read on to find out why.

How did you end up as a Mobile Marketing Consultant?

Having studied marketing and management at university, becoming a mobile marketing consultant was a no-brainer. Following my initial interview, and discovering that the ASO team worked with some clients related to sports and fitness, I was really intrigued.

After more digging, I found I loved the location, clients and partners that worked with CMA. I loved speaking with people at the company and realized it was a great team to be part of. My role offered another way of engaging with sports (without the training and cardio!) whilst also working in marketing.

Walk us through a typical day and week at ConsultMyApp

Monday usually begins with our ASO team discussing tasks, ongoing and upcoming. We then have a company-wide meeting and see everything from a bigger perspective. CMA is also big on collaborative team lunches, where we can eat good food and take a little breather together. That positive interaction sets the tone for the week, which is so important.

Once we’ve made sure we’re aligned with clients and on track, we work on open actions from reports sent out on Friday. These can include meeting with the design team, crafting promotional text, preparing decks, and extracting data to put into Power BI and construct a story. Before we meet clients, we prepare decks which are run by the design team and checked against brand guidelines.

After presenting, we often meet with clients to discuss interests, garner a rapport and grow work relations. It is as much about building that foundation as it is about marketing and showing results.

What do you find the most rewarding about your work?

I would say the client relationships. I love interacting with the clients and making sure we’re doing the best by them. Also, the innovation. With some apps, there are loads of things we can target and with others, like Snoop and Lockdown Privacy (a VPN), a world of unturned stones. We love being creative and capturing users’ attention.

What does it take to succeed in your role?

Perseverance, dedication and hard work. If you want to be the best at your job, you’ve got to be competitive and determined. I pride myself on not being outworked - which is hard with some colleagues who are absolute machines! Of course, a good work-life balance is important, but having someone to chase after is also great motivation.

Healthy competition helps us strive towards positive goals and really sets the tone for CMA. Being dynamic, creative and collaborative are all vital for success.

How have you developed your skillset since joining CMA; what major things have you learned or has the company given you?

At CMA, I’ve excelled in reading and applying data. Surrounded by colleagues with loads of experience, it’s great to see how they work, but also bring a new mindset. I enjoy being creative and I’m always making suggestions or wanting to experiment.

Since starting, I’ve gotten to grips with Power BI, understood how to present data and even how to follow brand guidelines. Previously, being in sales, we worked mainly with a script. Now, I’m using keyword identification within third-party attribution tools.

At first, the change took a lot of getting used to. But now, the role has opened my mind and all-in-all, been really positive.

Why work for ConsultMyApp?

Easy, the people here are fantastic, like when I bought some shoes and the CEO, Mike, liked them. I told him “get a pair they’ll make you feel great”. At a normal company, a CEO would probably disregard this, but after Christmas, Mike came rocking into the office with them on.

Things like that that make the company and the culture so brilliant. Yes, the after-work drinks are fun, and the parties are great, but having the heads of the company be so down-to-earth and engaging does it for me. I genuinely couldn’t speak highly enough of them as people and leaders.

What do you do outside of work?

I go to the gym, watch United play and hang out with friends. I also like to visit bars and restaurants around London, finding the hotspots and the hubs for undiscovered, unique places.

Having been to America on a football scholarship, I’m quite engaged with sports, which ties into my work well. With that under my belt, I knew I would get off on the right foot at CMA.
