A Day in the Life: ASO and Paid Acquisition Director.
Life as a director.
James previously worked at CMA for 3 years as an App Store Optimization consultant before exploring opportunities elsewhere as an ASO Director. Now, he has returned to CMA as the Acquisition Director James is an invaluable cog in the CMA machine. Read on to find out what he gets up to day-to-day.
What led you to your role as Acquisition Director?
Having worked extensively in both ASO and Mobile Paid User Acquisition channels, I have a deep understanding of the intricate dynamics of each and how they complement each other in driving app growth. My previous role provided me with invaluable insights into global strategies and the importance of a holistic approach to app marketing.
When the opportunity arose for me to return to CMA as Acquisition Director, I knew it was the right move. It was the company’s innovative approach, commitment to excellence, and the chance to lead the Acquisition team as Director that drew me back. Now I’ve returned, I’ll apply all my knowledge to CMA’s strategies, ensuring that our clients’ app visibility and performance is maximized across all relevant channels, given I worked at CMA previously as an ASO consultant, I feel I hold a unique perspective on the specific challenges and our clients face, meaning I can tailor our services to meet their needs effectively.
Walk us through a typical day and week at CMA.
Monday usually starts with our acquisition team meeting, discussing upcoming meetings and tasks for the week as well as strategizing how the team can support one another in the week ahead. We then follow up with a company-wide ‘Monday Stand Up’ bringing the whole company together to discuss the bigger picture and ensure every member of staff has a holistic view of the business.
From that point on my job varies to be honest. I work on client deliverables, collaborate with the sales and marketing departments, and support my team, particularly any new or junior consultants, with their work. CMA is a super collaborative place, and we foster a dynamic and creative culture. This means that no day or week is ever the same for me, or anyone else!
Most weeks I spend some time with my colleagues outside the office as well, catching up over food at lunch or a drink at the pub. I believe in effective communication within my team and beyond, so I actively encourage acquisition team lunches as well as broadening the work socialising across departments.
What are your goals and aspirations for the Acquisition team under your leadership?
My primary goal is to drive tangible results for our clients by optimizing their app presence and maximizing their user acquisition efforts. I aim to foster a culture of innovation within the Acquisition team, encouraging creative thinking and staying ahead of industry trends. Additionally, I’m committed to nurturing talent within the team, providing opportunities for growth and development. Ultimately, I want CMA to be recognized as a leader in app acquisition strategies, delivering exceptional value to our clients and contributing to their long-term success.
What do you do outside of work?
I am a really big fan of the NFL and American sports in general, so I love to stay up to date with all things sport in the US. This is one of the great things about CMA, my genuine hobbies and interests tie directly back to many of our clients given we work on a range of American sports-based apps.
